What’s the plan?
Two foolhardy individuals are just going to walk out the door and not stop for 24 hours straight – you couldn’t pick a better day for it!
We don’t know where we are going, or how far we will get – we’ll spin a bottle and go whichever way it points. No route, no support, just a lot of calories and the determination to keep on walking. Hopefully someone will pick us up and we’ll have raised a goodly amount for Serve On, the search and rescue charity.
Serve On Operations
Everything we raise is going to the charity Serve On. They have three core operational strands that help those in need.

Urban Search and Rescue
Our USAR International Response Team provides collapsed building technical search and rescue support backed up by 24/7 UK ops support.

Swift water and flood rescue
Our DEFRA qualified Water and Flood Rescue team is deployed by the government, councils, utility companies, police, fire & rescue, lowland rescue, and others in the UK.

Disaster response and emergency support
Through our UK Resilience team, Serve On works to strengthen national preparedness and provide vital support to communities during times of crisis.
Please support the Serve On team with a pence per mile sponsorship
We’ll be doing the hard yards. Hopefully an awful lot of them. If you can find a few pence for each yard we can use it to save lives.
Flood rescue and USAR technicians
Serve On members are all volunteers… but volunteering at this level comes with a significant cost.
Just over the 2 years of training, each individual must fund around £3,000 per year, covering specialist rescue equipment, training kit, travel to exercises, accommodation, and yes, biscuits.
Deploying the team
When Serve On deploy Internationally after earthquakes or hurricanes, or to emergencies in the UK, we have a team on the ground and a 24/7 UK ops team supporting them.
The costs of that deployment are also covered entirely by donations. Every time we respond to a request for help, we need to find funds to ensure we are ready for the next disaster. We are only able to save the lives of others through the generosity of people like you.
Sponsor us
You can make a per mile sponsorship and we’ll be in touch to let you know the hard figures after we’ve finished suffering so you can send us your total donation. Just fill in the form here!
Alternatively, you can just send us a fixed donation if you have the fear about how far we can walk in 24 hours on the darkest day of the year in the UK. It won’t be as motivating for us but I get it, you think we are elite ultra marathon runners and your house might be at risk. We wish.
Just a reminder that the average walking pace is about 3 miles an hour… but that inevitably drops when you are very cold, exhausted, and very very grumpy.
